Reporter John Landrigan catches up with one of the hottest new prospects in golf.

Three American universities have been vying for the talents of teenage golfer Scott McAlpine.

The 18-year-old from Devonport will swing his way to his first option, the University of Georgia, in February, to fine-tune his skills further.

Scott was fresh from a win at Auckland Strokeplay when The Aucklander revealed his talents in our August 20 edition.

Since then he's achieved a credible fourth in the New Zealand under-19s' championship, at North Shore in September, and was the only Aucklander to make it into a junior Kiwi team to play in China.

"I have improved my patience and consistency,'' says Scott. "I am taking more time with my golf.''

Scott aims to play on the professional circuit when his four years of study are completed.
