Now in its fifth year, the newly-named Wither Hills West End Cup will again feature many of NZ's top players between Thursday 6 and Sunday 9 December.

In 2012 however, it is the locals turn for some star treatment. This year for the first time, the Waitemata Local Board has become involved in an effort to increase the accessibility of the event for the broader community. With free entry for spectators, this funding assistance will enable more seating and shade to be provided, including free grandstand seating for all spectators on the main court on Saturday and Sunday.

The Kidzone area will be increased in size, with more activities on offer and it will be available throughout the weekend for kids of all ages.

Locals also have the chance to shine on court with the addition of a new participation event - The Super Ten. Anyone and everyone can enter this tournament and are being encouraged to do so. The format for play is the same as a standard Super-Tiebreaker: first to 10 points with a margin of 2 points to win. This is a fast and ferocious Men's and Women's tie-breaker tournament running from Thursday to Saturday, open to anyone who wants to play, with over $1,500 of prizes. Anything can happen in a game like this making it a great opportunity for the local players out there to get on court and see what they can do.

The West End Lawn Tennis Club has delivered a top event that each year attracts a large number of locals who come along to enjoy the event over the four days.

In 2012 it looks like there will be even more people along both as spectators and hopefully quite a few competing as well.
