Stonyridge wine named best cabernet
A wine made by Waiheke Island's Stonyridge Vineyard has taken the top spot in an Australian wine guide.
The vineyard's Larose 2010 has topped the list for Best Cabernet Merlot in The Age / Sydney Morning Herald Good Wine Guide 2013.
It scored 97 points, making it the highest equal scoring red wine in 2013 ahead of Australia's most iconic cabernet merlots.
Good Wine Guide 2013 author Nick Stock describes the 2010 Larose as "a real triumph."
Stonyridge chief winemaker Steve White is proud of the award, saying it blasts the old generalisation that Australia makes great reds and New Zealand great whites.
