This is fantastic news. The a tunnel is just another clipon. It fails to address the problem of the failing old brigde. The new bridge has a great chance to rejuvenate the waterfront and give us better access to one of the best recreation harbours in the world.

Every year, they continue to put off dealing with the Auckland Harbour bridge "issue" will see the costs go higher and higher - in typical government mindset of putting off decisions is pure buck-passing that will eventually bite Aucklanders.
If tunnels are the best option then build them. As for the thought of removing the Harbour Bridge that I grew up with as a child in the 70's and 80's - you've got to be kidding to even think about it.
That would be like the NSW government pulling down the Sydney Harbour bridge and the Australian Federal government contributing to the cost.
