LETTERS: No justice for some

I would like to register my concern at the most unfortunate treatment of Pene Loza in relation to her JP nomination outlined in your article.
I have known and worked with Ms Loza over many years in Australia, firstly in the Department of Community Services in NSW as a field worker (and Justice of the Peace),and as a statewide policy officer and then in her role as a highly trained and experienced management consultant, ongoing mentor to troubled youth and fine teacher of those working in related community fields.
I am aware that she has made an outstanding contribution to every work place and community that she has been a part of, and that she has the wisdom and experience to be a valuable reference point for individuals seeking her advice or guidance.
I do hope Mr Harawira might contact her referees to confirm her high suitability for the role of Justice of the Peace, and re-consider her nomination.

Years ago I was privileged to know and work with Pene in Australia. I saw so many vulnerable people benefit from her kindness and professional expertise.
It was a sad loss to us when she returned to New Zealand.
I would say "Pene please come back to Australia - we will treat you properly" but unfortunately we also have many unworthy people in power here.
All the best Pene from your friends in Australia.
I hope that Mr Harawira is treated the way that he has treated Pene and probably others.

Next election I will be ticking two Labour boxes. Time for the Maori Party to shape up and tidy up.
