The outrageous dismissal of this issue by Penney Pirrit, the Auckland City roading spokesperson, is dreadful.
Bronwyn Hughes is very likely to lose her livelihood due to the loss of customers through no fault of her own.
This is NOT normal roadworks upgrades.
It is ALL to do with the Rugby World Cup and everyone in the vicinity of Eden Park avoids this stretch of road if at all possible because of the disruption.
I am more than happy for some of my rates to go towards compensation for loss of business. The RWC organisation should be making a significant compensation payout also.
I bet the landlord is not sympathetic or reducing the rent this poor lady has to endure while her income is slashed.
Auckland City Council, this is a clearcut deserving case for making an exception to the rules.

I am a florist too, And work from home. I know Bronwyn well.
We always bought for each other on the markets. I quickly popped in and out for whatever we did. No longer, it is a total nightmare and have not been in the shop for a long time because it is just impossible.
That woman from the council is blind or likes to stick her head in the sand (with the roads open that is not difficult). I do not stop there or drive onto Sandringham Rd because it is really difficult to drive through, not to mention stopping. I truly believe that turnover's dropped and would be difficult to build up again because of the lenght of time this road work has taken. Off course they do not like to compensate for what is not in their budget.
It is really sad that it does not matter if you hurt people. A sacrifice for the games, is that not a good thing? People should think before they do anything. Everything is possible but is it all for the good?
