Given the All Whites' success at the Fifa World Cup and the country's new appetite for football, the local authorities need to be pushed to invest in more facilities.
The lack of all-weather parks and training grounds (5/7 a-side pitches, etc) is stifling the development of talent in New Zealand.
Football is still playing third fiddle behind rugby and cricket.
It would be interesting to see which mayoral candidate would be willing to discuss future football investment and maybe gain the votes of the thousands of parents whose kids are playing in the football leagues.
