Canon has announced the Garden to Table Trust as one of three winners in the annual Canon
Environmental Grants programme that saw the project receive $5000 in Canon products to assist their cause.
The Garden to Table Trust ‐ a programme for children to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh food as part of a school curriculum linked programme ‐ will put the much needed Canon imaging equipment to work documenting the project's success.
Catherine Bell Chairperson of the Garden to Table Trust, says the grant could not have come at a better time.
"We rely entirely on volunteers and donations to make this project a reality and receiving the grant is a blessing as we are not in a position to buy the equipment ourselves. We require imaging equipment so the children can monitor the progress of the garden, document milestones and so we can showcase our efforts to our community so this grant is hugely beneficial and much appreciated," says Bell
Garden to Table at Wynyard is a unique concept where children from several local Auckland schools will learn to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh food as part of a school curriculum linked programme at purpose built shared facility.
The new site will be located on 1500 sq meters of land on Auckland's Wynyard Quarter and will include a large and highly productive organic, edible garden, growing a wide variety of vegetables, fruits and herbs.
As well as a sustainably built kitchen classroom and utilities, onsite will be a glass house, worm farms, compost bins, and chooks all to create a fully sustainable site.
