Fire crews continue to fight Dome Valley fire

Firefighters will be back at the scene of a large fire at Dome Valley north of Auckland this morning.

A skeleton crew has been on overnight due to the danger of the steep terrain.

Auckland principal rural fire officer Bryan Cartelle says more than 40 firefighters, four helicopters, water tankers and heavy machinery were on the job yesterday.

He says a couple of helicopters will be stood down today, but there will be additional ground crew and diggers and bulldozers will continue to be used.

The forest fire, which began on Saturday afternoon, had spread to cover about 71ha yesterday.
