At least 3000 doggy lovers and 1500 of their 'best friends' from all over Auckland are expected to turn up for the third annual Champ Wag 'n' Walk Family Fun Day later this month in Devonport.

There's entertainment for the family including a dog talent contest, the cutest dog photo competition, face painting, a bouncy castle and more to keep tails wagging through to 1.30pm.

Also returnign is the dog/owner food eating competition. Event organiser Scott Rice fondly recalls the 2009 competition: "This wasn't as gross as you'd imagine but there was a lot of mess and clearly some of the owners had put in some serious training.

"The most rewarding aspect of previous years has been the pure enthusiasm of the owners for this event, many of whom have chosen to dress up like their pooches to get into the spirit of the day," says Rice.

It is anticipated that in excess of 3000 owners and 1500 dogs will take part in the 2010 Champ Wag'n' Walk, Family Fun Day which will be held rain or shine.

Those south of the harbour bridge can catch the Fullers Ferry to Devonport and still arrive in plenty of time for the scenic 3km dog walk starting at 10.30am.

This year's charity partner is Paw Justice, with proceed from tickets helping to stop animal abuse. Entry fee also gets participants a Champ Doggy Bag including a Champ dog bowl and other treats.

Online registrations are now open for New Zealand's biggest family dog event Tickets can be purchased from www.wagnwalk.co.nz or at the event.

Windsor Reserve, Devonport from 8.30am.
