Beach Haven residents are angry at Auckland Transport for shutting access to their wharf while a new ferry terminal is built.

The wharf is a popular spot for swimming, but signs and a security guard are stopping this from happening while construction is underway.

Local 19-year-old Thomas McMillan says they're sick of being shut off the wharf for safety reasons when it's in perfect condition.

He says it's the same wharf that's been there for 30 or 40 years and there's nothing wrong with it.

Thomas McMillan says a group of angry residents will meet at the wharf at 1pm and go for a swim in protest.
